Three days ago, Tuesday, Jobberman officially turned one year old. That is, our site has been available to general public since August 10th, 2009 – seems like yesterday. Of course, prior to that we spent few days planning before the big day. It was at the height of the four months industrial strike action by ASUU.
With so much work ongoing amidst the product testing, release, user interface design, sales & marketing efforts and serial meetings, I can’t stop thinking about all the great things that our team has accomplished in such a short time.
When Opeyemi, Lekan and I started back in August 2009, we really had one goal in mind:
To be the ‘go-to’ company in the online job space.
I’m already proud of the team and all the accomplishments that have taken us so far on this one goal. A long road still lies ahead.
Here are some of the most memorable ones I could recall on this raining Friday Morning, in the wee hours just before dawn – it’s a quick list:
August 2009 – We set up shop out of an office in Obafemi Awolowo University
September 2009 – Jobberman blog, http://blog.jobberman.com launched
October 2009 – Jobberman broke into the list of Top 100 websites in Nigeria according to Alexa.com
November 2009 – Jobberman hired its first set of Staff to support operation
January 2010 – L5Lab joined the team and invested into Jobberman
April 2010 – Jobberman left Obafemi Awolowo University behind and opened up a real office
April 2010 – Jobberman launched Jobberman Toolbar bringing the latest jobs to your desktop browser
May 2010 – Startups Nigeria features Jobberman as one of the hot web startups to watch
May 2010 – Jobberman launched Facebook Connect service
June 2010 – Jobberman launched Mobile site, http://m.jobberman.com
July 2010 – We hired our 10th employee!
So, what’s next?
It’s always day one, so looking back has little value, except for learning from mistakes. We have a lot in the pipeline for the rest of 2010, trust me! I wish I could tell more, but both job seekers and employers/recruiters will soon see an expanded offering in terms of features, tools and content.
I find it to be a priviledge to be able to work in a fast growing startup blessed with great people and a mission that we are in a life-transforming business.
It’s always day one, but thank you already for the past 1 year…it’s a privilege, it’s an honour.
Onwards and upwards,
Ayodeji Adewunmi
